SPOTLIGHT!

Madeline Griffin, 17 years old Meridian High School student has volunteered at the Boys & Girls Club of East Mississippi many many times because she and the children enjoy working and playing together.  One day, Madeline asked Mr. Hood what he really needed for the Club, and Mr. Hood gave her the standard answer; more snacks, juices, etc.  But when Madeline persisted, he said, "we really need safe and reliable transportation” so Madeline along with her parents, grandparents, friends, the Club's Board of Directors and Club staff created fundraising events in the hopes of raising enough money to obtain a brand new bus (84-seater) for over 2,000 children living in the community that attend the After-School and Summer Reading Enrichment activities at the Boys & Girls Club.

Madeline Griffin is the daughter of Bob and Starr Griffin and Brenda and Chuck Smith. She is a senior at Meridian High School where she is a member of the Varsity Cheerleading Squad, Varsity Tennis Team, and Captain for the Varsity Soccer Team. She is Vice President for both the Youth Advisory Committee and her Senior Class, maintaining a 4.0 GPA. She was chosen to participate in 4-H Leadership Lauderdale Youth in the eleventh grade and serves as Editor of the Reverie Yearbook and the MHS Web Page. She is 2014 Coca-Cola Semi Finalist and was honored to be voted on the Homecoming Court for three years.  She is involved in many after school activities as well.  She was Membership Co-Chairman for the Dusty Social Service Organization and a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church where she will travel to Taize, France this summer for mission work.  Madeline will attend The University of Alabama in the Fall.

As Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Club of East Mississippi, I would like to personally thank everyone involved for their support in Madeline’s fundraising effort to secure safe and reliable busing transportation for the children.

Madeline’s Drive is considered a resounding success, raising a total of $103,000.00 dollars with the assistance of the Phil Hardin Foundation and Anderson Regional Medical Center.
